Plymouth Argyle V Birmingham

I must admit this is the first home game I have been to this season and what a game it was.
Living in Bristol and supporting Plymouth it sometimes isn't easy to plan time to get to the matches. I will be going to the Boxing Day match against Southampton which I am really looking forward to. Let's hope I see a win.

I not sure who completes the sats of football games but whoever did this one must have been watching a different one to the one I saw last night.
Plymouth dominated the first half and the second half was more 50/50.
You can see from the shots on and off target and the number of corners, Plymouth were all over them.
The number of fouls in the chart doesn't reflect the decisions the ref did not give because if it did Birmingham would have been into double figures.

All that said, it was a good game and Plymouth were very unlucky not to have won by at least two goals.

Slow Start As Usual

Well Plymouth Argyle have got off to their usual slow start to the new season but are things about to change?

I've just seen this poster on a web site and just wish I could have gone to the match instead of on holiday to Turkey. Well maybe not. I can always see them when I'm back.

Seems a long time to wait untill I can watch Plymouth playing footy again so I have to be content with watching other teams.

Tomorrow we have Man U and Chelsea and then on Saturday we have Hull and Bristol City.

Plymouth have beaten both Hull and Bristol in the last season so I can't help wonder why we're not there, playing at Wembley.

The last day of the Championship games was quite a thriller and I expect the next season will be no different.

As I live in Bristol and must admit to going to watch city on more than one occaions, I'll be with friends in London watching the match in a pub near Wembley. I won't be wearing a red shirt but I'll be singing along with them and cheering if they score.

Good Luck to all my Bristol City friends. Just think, if you win you won't have to worry about being beaten by Plymouth Argyle for at least one season!

10 Men and The Ref? Argyle v Charlton

There's no way we can lose this now, was my thoughts as I saw the Charlton goal keeper handle the ball outside the area only 3 minutes after kick off. How wrong was I?

I felt for the Charlton fans, knowing how I would have been feeling if it was our keeper that had been sent off, but my feelings of excitement at a possible 3 or even 4 goals soon took over.

Although we had most of the play in the first half the teams went in without scoring.

Charlton decided the way forward for them was to waste time and at every opportunity this is what they did. When the fourth official's board only said 4 added minutes I couldn't believe it. Obviously he had been napping for most of the half.

Easter was the first to break the dead lock between the teams with a goal for Argyle in the 60th minute. Outwardly I was ecstatic but inwardly I was worried. Plymouth have this horrible habit of falling asleep just after they score and my worries were justified as Charlton got hold of the ball and put it past our keeper, who had gone out to collect the ball but had missed it, just 5 minutes later.

Charlton were now looking the better team and with just 10 men (and the ref the crowd sung) they scored again in the 76th minute all due to a mistake by our keeper who let the ball slip out of his hands for Lita to tap in into the back of the net.

All in all a disappointing game and one we should have won and in fact needed to win if we were going to be in any hope of reaching the play-offs.

Plymouth's next game isn't until the 14th when we play Sheffield Wednesday. Let's hope we can do better then as the whole nation will be able to watch the game live on Sky.

Yesterday's result was very disappointing.

We can beat Bristol city.

We can draw with Watford.

But we lose to Coventry. It doesn't make sense.

We are now down to 8th place, out of the play offs, and the 4 teams directly above us all have at least one game in hand. Is this the end of our hopes for at least a chance to go up into the premiership?

Bristol City have moved back to the top but will they be able to stay there since WBA have 2 games in hand and are 4 points behind them.

Hull seem to have come up on the quiet and are only 2 points off the top with Stoke just 1 point off.

There are only 12 points between 10th place and the top so it's still anyone's for the taking. Lets just hope Argyle can get their act together in time for next weeks match against Charlton and take us back up there again.

I'll be there with my daughter, cheering them on with the rest of the Green Army in block 19.

I'll never forget the last time I saw the two teams playing. Although Watford won, even their fans said they were boring to watch! Once they had scored the match was over, 10 men behind the ball doesn't make a very interesting watch.

What's Up In The Camp?

Well that's the second match we've lost to teams near the bottom of the league and to think we have the top team next!

They do say the bigger they are, the harder they fall and I'm sure that will be the case this Saturday when Plymouth Argyle meet Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

I know the ground well as I used to go and watch them last season when we weren't in the same league. They were a good team then and an even better one now, but not a match for our boys. We will come out confident and ready to take the 3 points back with us, down the M5, to sunny Devon.

I'll be going for a drink with my friends, City supporters, where we used to meet up last season before the games. The Robins pub, I think it may have changed it's name now, is friendly and I often saw supports from the away team in there without any trouble at all.

Lets hope it's still the same now.

Not a Good Day For The Pilgrims

Well that wasn't too good was it? A 3-0 defeat to WBA and back down to 7th place in the league.

The night before the match I was talking to someone up the pub, who is a Bristol City supporter, and he told me we should be happy with a point each from the next day’s games.

I, being always the optimist, said 'No. We will both get 3 points. Both teams have a good chance of winning'. Well I was 50% right. Bristol City have gone top with a 2-1 win over Hull. They need Stoke to lose today to keep their place. They have QPR, whose manager; Tony Pulis has just been named Championship manager of the month.

Fingers crossed for City.

Well they've just kicked off so I'm off to watch the match.

Before I had a chance to post this QPR have scored. Looking good for City to keep their place.

All I did was went to find a picture to post on here and they've scored again!

2-0 to QPR now.

The Watford ones have arrived but no sign of the Bristol City ones. Looks like we have to wait until the day of the match to find out where we will be sitting.

Tickets, Tickets Have You Seen Them?

I must have spoken too soon about my tickets, they haven't arrived!

Telephoned the booking line today and they told me they have been posted so where are they?

The lady, who must be new because she had no clue what would happen if they didn't arrive, went off to ask someone. She came back on the line to tell me to phone the day before the match if they still hadn't arrived then they would issue me with duplicates. I told her that would be no good to me as I lived in Bristol and didn't want to chance not receiving them. She went off to ask advice again. She then said it would be Bristol City that would issue the tickets and I would be able to collect them from Ashton Gate on the day of the match. All well and good as long as the ticket office isn't in the home end!

I'll have to keep a look out for both sets of tickets. I have this strange feeling that if they don't arrive someone else could be sat in our seats.

I also took the opportunity to buy 2 tickets for the Watford game which is a home game for us. It's on the 22nd March, the Saturday in-between the two Easter bank holidays.

I saw Watford at Home Park last season in a cup match but we lost that 1-0 and Watford played a very boring game. I hope this one will be more exciting

Reason's to be Cheerful - Not Today

Argyle make record financial loss

Plymouth Argyle made a record financial loss of £714,522 in the year to May 2007, almost double last year's losses.

Chairman Paul Stapleton says the high wages demanded by players in the Championship has increased expenditure.

"While turnover has increased by almost £1m there has been a significant increase in the wages paid for players," he said.

Falling gates have also contributed, with Argyle's average attendance 13,012, 3,500 less than four years ago.

The accounts show that Argyle made a loss of £311,720 for the year to May 2007, with transfer fees adding another £402,802 on top of that.

"It is essential that we do our best to encourage supporters to come to our games and also look to increase our non-match day revenue," Stapleton added.

But the club did purchase the freehold to Home Park during the accounting period and Stapleton is hopeful it will enable the club to increase future profits as the club are now in control of the stadium.

"This major transaction for the football club has now enabled us to push forward with our plans for the redevelopment of the South Stand," he said.

We're up in 5th place at the end of the game today thanks to Blackpool who scored 5 past Charlton.

The results for the day were:


Southampton managed to pull one back against Scunthorpe ending in a 1 all draw.
Stoke held Ipswich to a 1-0 win.
Coventry scored another in the second half, beating Leicester 2-0.

We're On Our Way

Well we're up against Burnley today and at one time we were 1-0 up which took us up to 5th place in the league.

Half time score is 2-1 to Plymouth Argyle.

On the up

Plymouth Argyle have had a good run over the last few games with amongst them a 1-0 win over Leicester and 2-0 over Southampton.

We are now 7th in the Championship with Burnley and Hull, who both have a game in hand, able to over take us before our next match and that will be only if they both win.

We have the 2nd best defence in the Championship, only letting in 32 goals this season and the best defended team has only one less than us.

We are only 10 points off top place and only 2 points off the play-offs.

End of a Year - Beginning of the Transfer Period

I'm always worried at this time of year with the transfer window opening soon. Plymouth Argyle are doing really well at the moment and I don't want any team who think they are bigger and can buy any player off smaller teams to come and rob us of our top players. There have been rumours that Holloway is after some of our players but he has denied this. Is this another one of his lies? Only time will tell, God knows he needs some help with the team he has now.

We had a good result against Stoke this week, coming back twice to come out of the game with a point and keeping us in 6th place on the table. Well done lads.

I'm sure this will be the headlines in the Hearld again at the end of the season!
